#5677   Model Smoking Prevention Program (formerly known as the Minnesota Smoking Prevention Program) is an evidence-based, comprehensive program proven to help prevent kids from using cigarettes, tobacco, and alternative tobacco products such as snuff, e-cigarettes, and hookahs. This newly updated, easy-to-use program includes:
  • Reproducible handouts designed for students in grades 5-8
  • A community action manual with guidance to address tobacco prevention community-wide by involving parents/guardians, youth, and other business and civic members
  • A parent/guardian pamphlet (available in English and Spanish) that motivates students’ family members to be involved in this important issue
MSPP consists of six developmentally appropriate classroom sessions for grades 58. Each session is 45-50 minutes in length, fitting well into a normal class period. Students are actively engaged in the sessions through the use of educational strategies like cooperative learning groups, group discussions, role-plays, reports, and goal setting.
In addition, MSPP uses same-age peer leaders to facilitate many of the classroom activities. The positive influence of peer leaders serves as a proactive prevention tool to help offset the peer pressure students face to start using tobacco and alternative tobacco products.
MSPP works effectively in diverse settings, including urban and rural, in all socioeconomic groups, and across ethnicities. Suitable for grades 5-6. Copyright © 2016. $275.00.
