By Daniel Porot and Frances Bolles Haynes

Providing good answers to interview questions is central to acing the interview and getting the job offer. But what exactly are "good" answers? What do interviewers look for when they question applicants? How can candidates best formulate compelling answers that motivate employers to hire them?

Addressing these and many other questions about the interview process, this unique book examines 202 of the most common and difficult interview questions asked of candidates. A virtual interview toolkit, this easy-to-use book thoroughly analyzes each question and then offers sample answers along with useful checklists of do's and don'ts.

Users learn what type of answers interviewers are really looking for when they ask a particular question. Each question is followed by a mini quiz to help readers better understand why some answers are better than others.

The perfect guide for quickly preparing answers to anticipated job interview questions. 512 pages. 6 x 9. January 2008.

THE AUTHORS: Daniel Porot and Frances Bolles Haynes are leading career professionals and authors of more than 15 career books.

This book was written to help you prepare for your interview. Its comprehensive look at 202 of the most frequently asked interview questions should prepare you for whatever is asked in most job interviews.

We have arranged these questions into 18 clusters with an introduction about each cluster and the kind of information the interviewer is looking for by asking the particular questions within the cluster.

We have delved into six different areas on each question to give you the most help possible. We didn't stop by listing sample responses you might give to each question, but have broadened the information for each question to include the most thorough look possible.

We've included a mini-quiz for each question to help you focus on the issues being addressed. At the end of the discussion of the question, the best answer of the five is given. Many of these answers (some are unbelievable!) were taken from actual responses given by candidates.

We've also included a section about what the interviewer is really trying to find out. Each one offers three different questions that help you understand what kind of information the interviewer is trying to elicit from you. These can help you formulate your responses so you are sure to address the real issue(s) about why the question was asked.

Four other sections for each question are designed so you:
  • don't do the wrong thing.
  • don't say the wrong thing.
  • do the right thing.
  • say the right thing.
In addition to these questions, each presented graphically for ease of reading, we have included a chapter on behavioral interviewing and the kinds of questions you might be faced with should your interviewer use this style of interviewing. This technique uses your past experiences and behaviors as an indicator of your future success. Answers are almost always in the form of stories, which illustrate concrete examples of how you behaved in certain circumstances.

Feel free to start wherever you need the most help. There is no real beginning or ending point for the questions. You can flip through them for a quick glance and come back to those you want to go into more detail.
