Detailed Description
By the Editors at JIST
This essential guide is a fun, relevant way to introduce students to key character traits. The Young Person's Character Education Handbook helps students understand why character is important and how character contributes to success in school, at home, and in life.
One positive character trait (presented as a "character goal") is described in each of the 50 units in an engaging and consistent way for easy reading, teaching, and discussion. Examples and case studies show character in action and help students relate to the material. Suggestions for developing and "experiencing" each character trait are included.
Each unit features:
- A definition of the trait.
- An example of the trait from literature, history, or other school subject.
- A case study of the trait from home, school, activities, the community, and other life situations.
- "Putting This Trait into Practice" offers suggestions for consciously using the trait and includes a helpful trait checklist.
- "Role Models for This Trait" discusses famous people who have possessed or not possessed the trait.
- "What's in It for Me?" shows some consequences of having or not having the trait.
- "Related Words to Explore" lists vocabulary words, including similar traits, synonyms, and antonyms.
