Ceel Pasternak
"Seeking to stimulate girls' interest in atypical careers"
Ceel Pasternak, now deceased, co-authored our widely acclaimed "Cool Careers for Girls" series with Linda Thornburg, and wrote individual volumes in the series, the last one being Cool Careers for Girls in Travel and Hospitality.
A noted editor who created award-winning magazines focusing on workplace issues, Ceel worked in publishing, promotion, circulation, and production. Her interest in career choices for young women arose when she discovered at age 63 that today's schoolgirls were dealing with the same peer pressure, emphasis on body image, and the limited career role models that she did 50 years earlier.
Desiring to encourage girls to actively focus on career development, she decided to nudge her own career in a new direction and work as a freelance editor, which gave her the freedom to help provide young girls with role models in atypical careers whose stories will encourage them to explore an unlimited range of occupational fields.
The result has been the widespread popularity of the "Cool Careers for Girls" books and their presence on the shelves of many school libraries.
