Lynne McClure, Ph.D.
"Specialist in high-risk employee behaviors"
Lynne McClure, Ph.D., is the author of Angry Men: Managing Anger in an Unforgiving World (2004), Angry Women: Stop Letting Anger Control Your Life! (2004), and Anger and Conflict in the Workplace (2000). All three books show how to deal with one's own anger and with the anger of other people around them. She is nationally recognized as a leading expert in managing high-risk employee behaviors before they escalate to violence and other hostile acts at work.
Dr. McClure identifies eight categories of high-risk behaviors, based on personality disorders and mental illnesses defined in the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual IV (DSM-IV). Her categories portray what these conditions look like in the work setting. Unlike "profiles" - which focus on demographics, and which tempt managers to "diagnose" employees - her categories put structure on observable behaviors. Her methods empower managers to intervene early and still comply with Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and Equal Employment Opportunities (EEO) requirements.
Her book Risky Business: Managing Employee Violence in the Workplace (Haworth Press, 1996) was named by the EAP Digest as "the best book" on violence prevention. Both books are based on her consulting experience since 1980, when she started McClure Associates, Inc. in the Phoenix area.
Dr. McClure presented at conferences held by TRW, Avnet, HR Semiconductor Association, the Institute for Law and the Workplace, International Personnel Managers Association (IPMA), Legal Assistant Management Association (LAMA), and others. By invitation, she served as an expert panelist in a U.S. Postal Service training teleconference. The National Mental Health Association invited her to write the workplace violence chapter for Violence in Homes and Communities (Sage, 1999).
Popular with the media, Dr. McClure has been featured by CNN News Stand, CBS This Morning, Fox News Channel's The O'Reilly Factor and Your World, Talk America Radio Network, Associated Press Radio, CNN Radio, U.S. News & World Report, USA Today, Newsday, Los Angeles Times, Investor's Business Daily, Journal of Commerce, Fortune, CEO Newswire, Harvard Management Update, Human Resource Executive, Workforce, HR Magazine, Strategic Finance, Good Housekeeping, Risk Management, National Underwriters Magazine, Priorities, Hospital & Health System HR Advisor, Black Enterprise, and other prominent media.
