Detailed Description

Inmates, not actors, talk about their biggest fears and greatest challenges in becoming involved in a prison treatment program. They candidly discuss their reasons for entering a cognitive-behavioral therapy program and their experiences during treatment. They learn through treatment that:

  1. Change won't happen unless they are honest about their attitudes, behaviors, and choices.
  2. In time, they have to be willing to share feelings and disclose personal information.
  3. As group members they are responsible for holding themself and others accountable for words and actions.
  4. Reaching out to others for help and support is difficult but necessary.
Part of A New Direction video series taped in Minnesota correctional facilities, this program shows real inmates telling real stories about recovering from a life of addiction and crime. The result is a powerful, direct, and liberating message about finding a life of recovery and freedom. DVD format. Closed-captioned. 2002.
