Detailed Description
Inmates, not actors, talk about their biggest fears and greatest challenges in becoming involved in a prison treatment program. They candidly discuss their reasons for entering a cognitive-behavioral therapy program and their experiences during treatment. They learn through treatment that:
- Change won't happen unless they are honest about their attitudes, behaviors, and choices.
- In time, they have to be willing to share feelings and disclose personal information.
- As group members they are responsible for holding themself and others accountable for words and actions.
- Reaching out to others for help and support is difficult but necessary.
Part of A New Direction video series taped in Minnesota correctional facilities, this program shows real inmates telling real stories about recovering from a life of addiction and crime. The result is a powerful, direct, and liberating message about finding a life of recovery and freedom. DVD format. Closed-captioned. 2002. See also A New Direction for Ex-Offenders. IHZ 1008
