Sponsored by Transformations Enterprise, this 40-hour course helps alcoholism and substance abuse counselors learn how to use The Pathways to Sobriety Workbook to help clients recover from addiction to alcohol and/or other drugs. The workbook is a comprehensive set of practical recovery tools and uses a cognitive/behavioral approach to the problem of addiction.
Upon completing this course, counselors will be able to help clients:
- Complete an honest self-assessment
- Identify addiction as a problem and discover how they learned their addiction pattern
- Recognize how they have used alcohol and/or other drugs to change feelings
- Find new clean and sober ways to experience good feelings
- Learn how to design a personal relapse prevention strategy that will work for them
- Set meaningful goals that will lead to a contented clean and sober future
- Identify and change negative attitudes and beliefs that would keep them stuck in the relapse process
- Avoid relapsing back into active chemical use after treatment
