Janet I. Farley

Janet Farley, Ed.M., is an author and freelance writer who specializes in writing about job search, career management, and workplace issues.
As a Marine Corps brat and an Army spouse, Janet has always felt particularly driven to assist those who proudly serve our country by helping them to advance their own careers, whether serving in, transitioning out of, or married to the uniform.
She has successfully accomplished this through her career working in such positions as a military transition center career counselor and manager, as a Department of Defense spouse employment program analyst, and as a published writer.
Janet is the author of The Military Spouse's Complete Guide to Career Success (Impact Publications, January 2008) as well as the first and second editions of Jobs and the Military Spouse (Impact Publications) and The Military-to-Civilian Career Transition Guide (Jist, Inc.).
Recognized and appreciated as providing solid, no-nonsense career advice, her work can be found wherever there are boots on the ground such as within the pages of the European, Pacific and Asian Stars and Stripes newspapers where she is the featured "JobTalk" columnist. She also writes the "Home Front" column for the Military Officers Association of America (MoAA) and the "Your Careers" column for CinCHouse.
Additionally, she is a contributing editor for Civilian Job News, a Military Resumes publication. She has also been published in Military Spouse Magazine and in the Wall Street Journal's "Career Journal."
Janet earned her Master’s Degree in Human Services and Human Resource Education from Boston University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Management from the University of Maryland.
She was awarded the Joint Civilian Service Achievement Award for exceptional service within the Headquarters, European Command as a Military Spouse Careers and Program Analyst in 2007 where she developed strategic solutions designed to promote spouse employment opportunities within theater from 2006-2007. Most recently, she was chosen as a Who's Who Spouse to Watch in 2008 by Military Spouse Magazine.
Janet currently lives near Stuttgart, Germany with her now retired Soldier and her two energetic daughters where she has turned to writing full-time. She also actively volunteers in chairperson positions with her community Parent-Teacher Association and Community Spouses Club.
She is a member of the Military Officers Association of America (MoAA), the Association of the US Army (AUSA), the National Military Family Association (NMFA), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Association of Job Search Trainers (AJST) and the National Career Development Association (NCDA).
