Detailed Description

This award-winning (Telly, Worldfest Houston, Communicator awards) three-DVD series is specifically designed to help inmates make a successful transition from prison life. It teaches inmates how to:

  • Take advantage of prison-based work and learning programs.
  • Meet basic needs for shelter, food, and employment soon after release.
  • Deal with the emotional challenges of prison release.
Years in the making, this is a very special video series because inmates have unique challenges - both obstacles AND opportunities - to make the transition from prison to civilian life. The videos give very practical advice through numerous interviews with inmates near their release dates and with their counselors and instructors.

Filmed at correctional facilities across the country. Each video runs 25 to 31 minutes. Filled with a diverse mix of Caucasian, African-American, and Hispanic participants. 1999. Can purchase each separately for $129.00. SPECIAL: $330.00 for the complete series.
  • Inside Opportunities: Training and Education Behind Bars - Correctional facilities provide a wealth of training and education programs where inmates can develop some of the skills they'll need to get and hold jobs when they're released. This 25-minute DVD offers insights on basic literacy, postsecondary education, high school completion, job search training, GED certification, employment skills training, and vocational training.

  • After Prison: How the Ex-Convict Can Find a Place to Live, Get Work, and Stay Straight - This 31-minute DVD focuses on basic human needs for food, shelter, and employment. Where can ex-offenders find housing and jobs? And more important, where can they find extra emotional strength during those first few months? Inmates answer questions such as: when to begin planning for release; what to tell potential employers; how to handle money and credit; how to overcome the stigma of incarceration; what to do about housing; what support programs are available.

  • Post-Prison Blues: Adjusting Your Relationships With Family, Friends, and Yourself - This 28-minute DVD deals with the emotional challenges of prison release. Even family and friends may take some time to adjust, not to mention society at large. Inmates and experts relate their experiences and valuable insights on how to make the emotional transition. They talk about dealing with the label ex-convict, coping with the change from structured institutional time, surviving without support from family or friends, helping children understand why they were in prison, and dealing with the uncertain future.
